About Chemical Peels
Did you know that we have an experienced, licensed aesthetician on staff at the Caring Center for Women? Laurie Espil Goode has joined our team to provide our patients with rejuvenating chemical peel treatments in our New Braunfels, TX office. With several options in intensity, our chemical peels are made with medical-grade solutions, such as glycolic, salicylic, lactic, and trichloroacetic acids. When you have flaws in your skin, chemical peels can help reduce lines, wrinkles, scars, splotching, hyperpigmentation, and discoloration. The acids in our chemical peels can diminish dead or weathered skin cells by applying a customized solution just for your skin. This is not a one-size-fits-all type of rejuvenation treatment. The acids cause the oldest layer to peel off to rejuvenate and repair your skin. A chemical peel treatment is a noninvasive procedure to make your skin bright and may be appropriate for the face, neck, and decolletage.
Variations of Chemical Peels
We provide chemical peels in light, medium, and deep levels to fit your skincare concerns and goals.
Light peels
You can have a light chemical peel on your lunch break and get back to your day. This peel will remove the top layer of skin (the epidermis), giving your complexion a brighter appearance and softer texture. We typically suggest that you get a light treatment once a month for the best glowing results.
Medium-depth peels
Medium-depth chemical peels penetrate deeper into your skin, and you might want to do this level of facial rejuvenation treatment over a long weekend. Prepare yourself for discomfort during and around an hour after this chemical peel. Medium-depth peels are best for patients who have significant damage to their skin such as deeper wrinkles and darker pigmentation issues.
Deep peels
The most advanced treatment peel of the three types of chemical peels is the deep peel treatment, and it will require the most recovery time. This is an aggressive treatment that could leave your face peeling, itchy, and swollen for several weeks. Patients who receive a deep peel will have dark age spots, sun-damaged skin, significant acne scars, or deep-seated scars. As this strength of peel is uncomfortable for most patients, we will provide you with mild anesthesia prior to beginning the application of the selected solution.

Treatment Technique
At your chemical peel at the Caring Center for Women, we will have you lying down in a relaxed position to administer your peel. We will make sure your skin is cleansed before applying the customized solution to your treatment areas. Our licensed aesthetician will massage the solution onto your face and let it set for a specific amount of time. Finally, we will wash the solution off and apply a neutralizing agent. You are encouraged to bring a light sunscreen or a hat to wear outside afterward to protect from environmental exposure.
Other Considerations
Depending on the level of the intensity of the peel, you can expect your face to itch and peel from a few days to a couple weeks. We will give instructions on methods to care for your skin during your consultation. Please keep in mind that no matter how much your skin itches during the post-treatment process, it is never helpful to pick it off. You could scar your delicate skin!
