About Endometrial Ablation With NovaSure®
At Caring Center for Women, our team of board-certified OB/GYNs provides endometrial ablation treatment as the least invasive strategy prior to recommending surgery. Using advanced NovaSure technology, ablation is performed in order to thin out the excess tissue growth within the uterine lining. Requiring no incisions, NovaSure is effective in treating heavy periods, painful cramps, and other unpleasant symptoms of endometriosis. Endometrial ablation is a relatively quick procedure that does not require general anesthesia and is typically the first recommended form of treatment for patients with endometriosis. Ideal Candidates For NovaSure
Ideal candidates for NovaSure ablation techniques are typically women who are done with childbearing or are not wanting to get pregnant in the future. Though it is still possible to get pregnant following a one-time endometrial ablation, the damage to your uterine lining could make it unsafe to carry a pregnancy. If you are not finished adding to your family, endometrial ablation may not be ideal for you. If you have decided upon endometrial ablation, the symptoms that qualify you for this treatment include:
- A diagnosis of endometriosis
- Painful and/or heavy periods
- Noticeable pressure in other internal organs nearby
During a thorough consultation at one of our state-of-the-art facilities, one of our skilled OB/GYNs will determine if you are a good candidate for NovaSure endometrial ablation or if another form of treatment may be better for you and your needs.
EndoMetrial Ablation Technique
Once you have received a diagnostic test for your symptoms and it has been determined that endometrial ablation is right for you, your treatment will be scheduled to be performed in our facility. NovaSure does not require general anesthesia, but instead, a local anesthetic is used. Endometrial ablation with NovaSure utilizes radiofrequency heat to remove only the uterine lining and the uterus will still be intact and functional. Prior to the start of the procedure, the cervix will be dilated in order to create a wider opening for the treatment. These nonsurgical procedures include a wand-like device that is carefully inserted through the vagina as there is no surgical incision needed. Through a few minutes of heat energy emission, the uterine lining will be thinned out drastically.
What To Expect
Following your endometrial ablation procedure, you could experience some residual side effects, including menstrual cramps, nausea, discharge with spots of blood, and feeling as though you need to go to the bathroom more frequently for a day or so. It is advised that you return home to rest immediately following your treatment. A member of our team will talk with you about what to watch out for, including indications of infection, fever, and excessive bleeding. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled in order to track the progress of your healing and recovery. We invite you to contact our practice if you have a question after your treatment plan or about how your body is reacting to the treatment.
